As a veteran technology writer, I've written hundreds of articles on the birth of the Internet era showcasing companies like Amazon.com, Netscape, Microsoft, IBM and even Pets.com. Instead of bailing early on and starting a brilliant dot com business I decided to hold out until the time was right. That's now. Social media, a mature Internet industry, Wi-Fi, cheap technology tools like laptops for less than $1,000, Flip cameras, digital recorders and a pocket-sized iPhone have made reporting from anywhere possible and easy.
Now is the best time for innovation.
